I'm applying to a university and it doesn't really give a good description of what the actual resume should look like. It says: "Submit your résumé and/or personal history (strongly encouraged). Please provide a résumé of your high school years (no more than two pages or 1000 words). You may wish to include: 1. Extracurricular, personal, and volunteer activities; community service work; and employment. 2. Any special talents and awards that you have received. 3. Any programs that you participated in to help prepare you for college (e.g. University Outreach, Talent Search, Upward Bound, etc.) 4. Any family or work obligations that might have prevented you from participating in extracurricular activities." So my question is..is there any particular format my resume should be in? or what? Which book helps the best with writing US admissions essays?
I'm curious about my chances at getting into UCLA. I am a pretty good student. Solid GPA and ECs I guess. Here's my stats. I am a will be a senior in high school beginning this fall. My GPA as of now is a 3.71 Unweighted and a 4.0-4.2 Weighted I have As in my math and science classes except for a "C " in AP Bio for one semester. I am going to take AP Calc BC, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP APES and 2 other undecided electives and plan on getting As for them all. I took Statistics, Drawing and an introductory Engineering course at my local community college. My SAT scores are as follows: 590 on Critical Reading 600 on Math 600 on Writing (8 on the essay) SAT Subjects 600 Math 2 520 Biology M (They messed up my score. The score report says I took E *sighs* oh well) My extracurriculars are pretty good I guess. Here they are: I am in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Pre-College Pipeline program at UCLA.http://www.hhmi.org/grants/query/index.php Basically, I research with a top professor/researcher at UCLA on a certain subject. Mine is on cell signaling and stem cell research. By the way, I work in Dr. Wong's lab at the UCLA school of dentistry. http://www.dentistry.ucla.edu/faculty/wong/ We have to come up with a large research presentation and well, present it at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Pacific Division to a auditorium of scientists. It is a 6 week residential program. I live/eat/etc at the dorms. I am also in the Junior Engineering Technical Society at my school. (MEND)http://www.mendpoverty.org/ I am a tutor and mentor to my autistic brother and a Sophomore in my school. I mentor my brother in speech/etc etc etc and the sophomore in math and science. I am a member of the science club at my school. I am also a member of the ACE club (Achievement Commitment Excellence). This club focuses on personal and mental welfare and success in the future. I am in the EAOP (Early Academic Outreach Program) http://www.eaop.org/ I am very knowldegeable in lab techniques (everything basically). I also wrote a "killer" (according to my AP English teacher) admissions essay so you may want to take a look at that (ask me). Tell me what you think.

Student 1: GPA = 3.7 (has taken 5 AP courses) SAT Score = 1450 (old scale) Extra curricular activities = Hispanic scholar, Red Cross Volunteer, Math Team member, Volleyball Team member, Local hospital volunteer and Student Council President. Background information = Latina (Puerto Rican) growing up in NYC with a mother who is a nurse and a father who is a factory worker, lives in the Bronx and is from a middle class family. Family makes about $70,000 per year. Student 2: GPA = 3.9 (has taken 9 AP courses) SAT Score = 1580 (old scale) Extra Curricular activities = Local Hospital volunteer, started his own SAT tutoring class, started his own canned food drive and donated the food to a local homeless shelter, Student Council President, Class President, Soccer Team member, Captain of a math team which won state honors, governor honors finalist for Math, History and Science, and he has won 12 medals in Academic Decathlon (all of which have been gold). Background Information = Asian American (South Asian from India), came to the US when he was 12 years old and could not speak a word in English yet when he reached high school he was able to speak English fluently, family makes about $110,000 per year. Lives in North Carolina, both parents are research scientists. 1. Who would you give the final spot to? 2. In reality, who do you think would really win the final spot?
