The thing that concerns me about today's church is that a great deal of it's members have no real understanding of scripture. Many apparently believe that only the outward acts of sin are actually sin. For example, a person can be homosexual but cannot act upon it. This belief has lead many people to fall away from God because they can no longer contain their inner lust. How is it that people do not understand that Christ did not come to only stop the outward act of sin but to destroy the lust that fuels it? If He changes you inside, then won't the outside be clean as well? Hey, This is a bit complicated, but I'll try to be brief: This September, a cousin of mine got married in the States. Since a bunch of the family lives abroad and couldn't make it, my dad had one of our uncle's bring a gift on our behalf (it was a sizable monetary sum). To this day we have received no acknowledgement whatsoever. My dad is a busy man and doesn't usually have time to think about these things, but I think he was bothered by it because he mentioned it several times, wondering if I had heard anything from my cousin, which I had not. One of my theories is that my uncle who was also bringing other gifts from other family members (monetary ones) mixed them together and so our cousin had no idea of it. Question: Is there a civil way for me to write to my cousin and actually find out if they got the gift, or that if they did why wasn't it acknowledged without sounding too holier than thou? Recently, my has gotten old and bitter. My family is unorthodox at best. Both of my parents would be labeled as the "black sheep" of their respective families. The grandmother in question is my father's parent. In Easter of 2008, my father was arrested for murder related charges. It sucked. I cried. I love my Dad very much and when it happened, it broke my heart. His mother could have cared less. She BANNED us from seeing my father's trial. She said we should have nothing to do with him. I disobeyed. I saw all of his trial. I write him. She now treats me like a leper. There's more. See, I got engaged. I'm 18. I live with my fiance. We both are in college. She won't stand for it. She swears I'm too young and I don't know what I'm doing. She constantly belittles me by calling me stupid in front of my family. When I competed in a national environmental contest (which I won), she told the other members of my team that she thought I was too dumb to be there. I am no where near stupid. I'm in college and I haven't finished high school yet. I'm in the top 5 of my class, am studying chemistry, and have more scholarships than she has money. I think she's jealous. But recently, she sent us a Christmas card, in closed was a letter and a check for $75.00. In the letter, she detailed just how much we suck, including a description of how she thinks we will all wind up. She called my mother and lectured her on how this is all her fault. Congressional Democrats all but shut out their Republican counterparts on both bills. It looks like the current Senate bill isn't an ideal plan and the House bill is a mess. Ok so I live in the hood aka the ghetto, and I am FAAAARRRR.... from ghetto. Of course I have ghetto family members and ghetto friends. I don't have a problem with it because I love all people, that's the way they are I don't patronize them. But my problem is they have a problem with me because I don't act or speak like they do. They say I think I'm better than them...which I don't because I'm not better than anybody. I am in high classes at school, I don't smoke or do drugs. I do fight cause that is something you have to do here...I don't want to though. I'm just a nicer more calmer person than them. Every time I get around any of them they alway make jokes about me, I CAN be ghetto but I don't feel like that I should add on to the stereotypes. Not to mention I don't look like a girl you would normally see in the ghetto so that is definitely a problem. They treat me like I don't understand the terms they use and thing s like that which I do. But if I speak out or do something out of line or be too myself..I could potentially get shot or cut or something major..like some type of scaring on my face for looking too different or being too pretty. Should I just act like everyone else?
